Zeldin Continues to Support Trump Through Countless Dangerous & Un-American Comments, Showing Disturbing Loyalty to Party over Country
Already this week, we can add three more major developments to the overwhelming list of reasons Donald Trump is unfit to be president. First, we learned that his campaign manager was paid millions of dollars from a pro-Kremlin political party in Ukraine. Second, the Chairman of the extreme, right wing, conspiracy-theory touting Breitbart website has just been brought on as the Trump campaign’s CEO – a man dubbed the “most dangerous political operative in America.” As if that weren’t enough, Trump this week also called for “extreme vetting” and a new ideological test for immigrants’ before they are allowed into the country.
With each new revelation, No Show Lee Zeldin’s endorsement of Trump becomes more shocking and difficult to defend to voters. And as DCCC Executive Director Kelly Ward pointed out last week, Trump will continue to alienate swing voters, causing a big math problem for Zeldin who is already facing a tougher reelection with increased presidential year Democratic turnout.
But at this point, Zeldin has no choice but to stand behind his endorsement. Any attempt to back away from this stubbornly dangerous man would be seen as nothing but a political ploy. After all, Zeldin thought Trump would be a great president even as he attacked women, a Gold Star family, and POWs, so backing away now is nothing more than an attempt to save himself.
“No Show Lee Zeldin’s enthusiastic embrace of Donald Trump will become the albatross that drags down his chances in November. And there’s no backing away now,” said Bryan Lesswing at the DCCC. “Long Island voters will remember who put their party over the country and stood by Trump.”
