And it’s only Monday…
It’s only Monday, but it’s clear that Evelyn Sanguinetti is already having a tough week.
First, POLITICO Illinois reported that Sanguinetti got outraised 7-to-1 by Congressman Casten, bringing in a pathetic $103,000 (!) after almost a full quarter of fundraising:
Republican Evelyn Sanguinetti, who hopes to unseat Congressman Sean Casten in the 6th District, raised $103,647 in the second quarter. She’s also chalked up big-name GOP support, including from Rep. Adam Kinzinger (16th), former Sen. Mark Kirk, former Rep. Judy Biggert and former Lt. Gov. Corinne Wood. Casten raised $700,000 in the second quarter and has $900,000 remaining on-hand.
And now Crain’s Chicago Business is reporting that far-right conservative firebrand Jeanne Ives is on the verge of entering the race – dragging Sanguinetti to the extreme fringes in a rematch of the toxic 2018 Republican gubernatorial primary:
I’m still hearing chatter that former gubernatorial hopeful Jeanne Ives is planning to enter the race, perhaps as soon as this weekend. An Ives candidacy would amount to a surrogate rerun of her contest against former Gov. Bruce Rauner, who has endorsed Sanguinetti. Ives hasn’t been returning phone calls.
[…]
Look for immigration policy and Donald Trump to be huge issues next year if Sanguinetti indeed is the nominee.

“It’s only Monday, but it’s hard to imagine how Evelyn Sanguinetti’s week could get any worse – first, she posts embarrassingly bad fundraising numbers, and then new reports show she could be facing a nasty primary challenge to boot,” said DCCC spokesperson Mike Gwin. “While Sanguinetti’s bid for Congress continues to flounder, Sean Casten is focused in Washington on delivering for middle-class Illinois families by working to keep down the cost of health care and lowering taxes for homeowners.”
