GOP Rep. Anthony Gonzalez Dashing For The Unhinged Door, Says Republicans’ Toxic Politics Is “A Cancer for Our Country”

REDXIT: Gonzalez Calls Republicans’ Dangerous, Deadly, and Divisive Politics “Not Something I’m Going To Be A Part Of”

Ohio GOP Congressman Anthony Gonzalez, one of only 10 House Republicans who voted to impeach former President Trump for inciting a deadly insurrection at the Capitol on January 6th, is dashing for the unhinged doors of the Republican Party.

In an interview on Thursday, Gonzalez said he would not run for reelection. Gonzalez blamed the direction of the Republican conference under Extremist Ringleader Kevin McCarthy, who has made Trump’s toxic politics the center of the party. Gonzalez says, “That’s not something I’m going to be part of.” His resignation clears the way for a Trump-backed primary challenger that would make the Republican House caucus even more dangerous in 2022.

Gonzalez’s announcement came the same day McCarthy’s hand-picked GOP messaging leader Rep. Elise Stefanik came under fire for pushing Facebook ads that promoted the racist “Replacement Theory” conspiracy. Stefanik replaced Rep. Liz Cheney, who was booted from party leadership for telling the truth about the results of the 2020 Presidential Election; Cheney now faces a Trump-backed primary opponent in her race.

DCCC Spokesperson Chris Taylor

“Rep. Gonzalez is dashing for the GOP’s unhinged doors thanks to Kevin McCarthy’s fealty to Trump’s reckless, extremist politics. It’s the beginning of a REDXIT and there’s no wonder why — the House GOP is recklessly undermining our recovery from the pandemic by pushing anti-vaccine conspiracy theories, opposing vaccine mandates, and they even amped up an election lie that led to the deadly insurrection on January 6th. Under McCarthy’s leadership, vulnerable House Republicans are headed into a rocky primary season. Fed up with crazytown, we bet voters will reject the GOP’s dangerous agenda too.”
