Over the weekend, Yvette Herrell penned an op-ed advocating for water conservation efforts in New Mexico.
New Mexico is remarkably vulnerable to water shortages, which harm the state’s environment and economy. Any New Mexico representative worth their salt should advocate for water conserving measures in Washington.
The only problem? Despite her lip service, when Herrell had the chance to fight for water conservation in Congress she instead voted against $8.3 billion in drought resilience investments.
In her op-ed, Herrell writes, “every option should be on the table” when it comes to water conservation, yet she voted against the best option available to New Mexicans when she refused to stand up to her party bosses and vote for the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act.
This isn’t the first time Herrell took credit for policies she voted against. In letters and op-eds, she has the gall to lie to her constituents about her record of rejecting critical funding for New Mexico, from rural broadband to superfund site clean-ups.
DCCC spokesperson Maddy Mundy:
“Hypocritical Herrell plays good samaritan for the press, but when it comes down to doing her actual job, time and time again she votes against the interest of New Mexicans. Whether it’s rural broadband, clean up for Superfund sites or water conservation, New Mexicans will remember Yvette Herrell voted against sending millions in critical investments to their state.”
