Curbelo Challenged  by Hometown Senator and Newspaper on Zika Irresponsibility

Florida Senator Marco Rubio and the Miami Herald Editorial Board denounced House Republicans for standing in the way of fully funding a Zika virus response. While neither called out Carlos Curbelo by name, the South Florida Congressman has sided firmly with House Republicans over Senator Rubio, Gov. Scott, the Miami Herald, and the women and children of South Florida who are likely to be those most affected by the spread of Zika.  Months after public health officials began calling for funding to fight Zika, Curbelo proposed a measure that codifies Republicans’ call to shift Ebola funding to combat Zika, while offering no new funding to combat the spread of the virus.

Marco Rubio pointing fingers on Zika $$ debate: “I’m disturbed that members of my own party are standing in way of fully funding a response”

“Time after time, Carlos Curbelo continues to show that he will never stand up to House Republicans for South Florida even when the health and well-being of his community is in jeopardy,” said DCCC spokesman Jermaine House. “Even as his major hometown newspaper and Senator advocate for Congress to fully fund a Zika response, Congressman Curbelo stands by his toothless bill that provides no new funding and unnecessarily restricts the government’s ability to address the growing crisis.”
