Ciscomani votes against protecting reproductive freedom
As women across the country endure the unimaginable, brutal consequences of Republican’s war on women, Juan Ciscomani and House Republicans are doubling down on their anti-choice agenda in the early days of serving in the majority.
Earlier this week, in one of his very first votes in Congress, Ciscomani voted against consideration of the Women’s Health Protection Act which would codify the reproductive freedoms Roe v. Wade guaranteed before the Supreme Court ripped them away.
NRLC is pushing model legislation in states that would ban abortions with no exceptions for rape or incest.
NRLC’s general counsel, Jim Bopp, bragged about their model legislation that would allow states to force young girls to carry a rapist’s child to term, and even said NRLC hopes that child rape victims “would understand the reason and ultimately the benefit of having the child.”
NRLC wants to ban telemedicine for medical abortions, at a time when cancer patients and people with auto-immune diseases are unable to access their life-saving medication because anti-abortion extremists worry it could be used to terminate a pregnancy.
Clearly, Ciscomani and House Republicans did not learn anything when voters sent a clear and resounding message that they support reproductive freedom – dealing the Republican party an embarrassing midterm performance.
DCCC spokesperson Tommy Garcia:
“Juan Ciscomani’s despicable commitment to ripping away reproductive freedom is heard loud and clear. With every extreme vote against protecting and further restricting abortion rights, Ciscomani is building the case against himself for 2024.”
