Today Rep. Barbara Comstock voted for Speaker Paul Ryan’s plan to hike taxes on middle class families and homeowners in Northern Virginia while giving a huge break to the wealthiest and big corporations.
Because 51% of Comstock’s constituents depend on the State and Local Tax deduction to reduce their federal tax burden – one of the highest of any district in the country – this tax plan “could really hurt” Northern Virginia. The plan also eliminates popular middle class tax deductions for medical expenses and student loans.
“This GOP tax scam hammers Northern Virginia – there is no other way to spin it,” said DCCC spokesperson Jacob Peters. “It’s baffling that after voters rejected establishment Republicans up and down the ballot in Northern Virginia last week, Barbara Comstock decided her best move was to vote to hike taxes on middle class families and homeowners in her own district in order to give breaks to big corporations. Barbara Comstock’s willingness to sell out her constituents will haunt her next November.”
