KEY VOTE ALERT: Roskam Votes to Pass Middle Class Tax Hike out of Committee

Today, Rep. Peter Roskam and his Republican colleagues on the Ways and Means Committee advanced their tax scam to the House floor on a strictly party line vote. Roskam is one of the chief authors of the plan, which eliminates middle class tax breaks that provide a significant benefit to Chicagoland families and homeowners while delivering huge breaks to corporations and millionaires. As many as 23% of middle class families in Illinois would see their taxes go up by 2027. And by that point, nearly half of the tax cuts would go to the richest 1%.

“It’s done: Rep. Peter Roskam has written and advanced a tax plan that is going to absolutely hammer middle class families and homeowners in Chicagoland while giving a huge tax break to corporations and the richest one percent,” said DCCC spokesperson Jacob Peters. “Roskam’s colleagues are dropping like flies and admitting that this tax scam is going to hike taxes on the middle class and is more about delivering to special interest donors than it is helping Americans make ends meet. When voters fire Roskam next November, his decision to stick by this GOP tax scam is going to be seen as the beginning of the end of Roskam’s career in Congress.”
