LEA MARQUEZ-PETERSON HIGHLIGHTS GOP’S WEAK BENCH IN AZ-02

Bankruptcy. Delinquent taxes. Lawsuits. These are just a few of the ways to describe the business and financial failures plaguing Lea Marquez-Peterson – a new Republican candidate in Arizona’s 2nd Congressional District, the seat held by Rep. Martha McSally.

Marquez-Peterson touts her business acumen in her candidate bio, but after years of running her businesses into the ground, dodging taxes, and racking up millions of dollars in debt and multiple lawsuits, Marquez-Peterson is clearly setting her sights on a cushy taxpayer-funded gig in Congress.

Arizona voters deserve to know: will Marquez-Peterson step down from her role at the Tucson Hispanic Chamber given the conflict of interest it presents?

“Republican Lea Marquez-Peterson’s shady business dealings should be a giant red flag for Arizona voters,” said DCCC spokesperson Rachel Irwin. “If Marquez-Peterson can’t manage her own finances, she clearly can’t be trusted with taxpayer dollars. Marquez-Peterson is clearly running to Washington to advance her own interests at the expense of hardworking Arizonans. The people of Arizona deserve someone fighting for them, not another Washington Republican selling out to the highest bidder.”

Lea Marquez-Peterson’s business background is as bad as her record of siding with conservative special interests over Arizona families:

  • She chaired the Koch Brothers-funded effort to oppose raising Arizonans wages after failing as a business leader running multiple companies into the ground.
  • She supports President Trump’s tax scam that puts corporate donors above tax cuts for middle class Arizonans.
  • She supports allowing telecom giants to sell customers’ private information without their consent.
  • She supported repealing the ACA and raising health care premiums for Arizonans.
