| Rural Americans are souring on Republican rule as the midterms approach, according to new polling from Reuters/Ipsos.
The poll found that disapproval for Trump among rural Americans has jumped by 14% since February 2025. Driving the discontent is the 61% of rural voters who disapprove of Trump’s handling of the economy and addressing cost of living issues.
Since Trump and congressional Republicans took power in 2025, they have caused immense damage to America’s farmers and agricultural economy, raising costs on fuel, fertilizer, and farm equipment. Combined with low crop prices from Trump’s reckless trade wars, America’s farmers and rural communities are under constant economic assault from Republicans.
The new polling lines up with recent changes in the political environment when non-partisan race-rater Inside Elections shifted 11 House races in Democrats’ favor for the midterms, including competitive rural districts such as IA-03, NC-11, PA-08, TX-15, and WI-03.
REMINDER: The DCCC launched an historic rural voter engagement program earlier this cycle to energize Democratic infrastructure in rural swing districts and engage with rural voters early and often. The program has included in-person organizing events and ads aimed to highlight the harm that Republicans’ have caused to rural communities.
DCCC Spokesperson Viet Shelton:
“Rural America was promised a ‘golden age’ by House Republicans, but instead got historic health care cuts, shuttered hospitals, and skyrocketing costs from everything from fuel to fertilizer. Republicans’ broken promises have caused rural voters to sour on them and are setting the stage for voters to reject them in November.” |
