New Report Reveals Two NY-17 Hospitals At Risk Of Closure and Layoffs After Mike Lawler Voted To Decimate Medicaid

Lawler voted TWICE for the largest Medicaid cut in history — now local hospitals in his own district are on the chopping block

A damning new report from LoHud lays out exactly what Mike Lawler’s vote to gut Medicaid means for Hudson Valley families — and it’s a nightmare.

According to the analysis, Good Samaritan Hospital in Suffern and Montefiore Nyack Hospital are now both at risk of closure, layoffs, or slashed services after Lawler voted twice for the largest cut to Medicaid in American history. They are two of 45 New York hospitals — over a quarter of hospitals across the Empire State — now facing an uncertain future because of Lawler’s vote.

The Greater New York Hospital Association president warned that Lawler’s cuts “will take about eight-and-a-half billion dollars out of the revenue stream of New York hospitals,” adding that the potential loss of these institutions keeps him up at night. “That is my nightmare.”

REMINDER: When local hospitals and doctors sounded the alarm on these devastating cuts, Lawler accused them of parroting talking points and lying. Then he posed for a photo op at one of the very hospitals his vote put at risk.

DCCC Spokesperson Riya Vashi:
“Mike Lawler voted for the largest cut to Medicaid in history TWICE, called the hospitals in his district liars when they pushed back, and then had the audacity to pose for photo ops at the very facilities he sabotaged. Hudson Valley voters will remember his betrayal and send him packing in November.”
