Tom Emmer Admitted To Offering Assistance To Candiates Tied To Neo-Nazis
Republican congressional nominees Laura Loomer (FL-21) and Marjorie Taylor Greene (GA-07) are well-known racist conspiracy theorists with ties to the Klu Klux Klan, QAnon and the Alt-Right. But that didn’t stop NRCC Chair Tom Emmer from offering them help with their campaigns.
Emmer told The Hill on Tuesday that he called to congratulate them and offer them help with their campaigns.
Two Republicans on the ballot for November are Marjorie Taylor Greene and Laura Loomer, House candidates in Georgia and Florida, respectively, who both back the QAnon conspiracy theory.
During Tuesday’s interview, Emmer said he had offered congratulations to them on their recent primary victories but refused to say whether he supported their candidacies.
The Minnesota lawmaker demurred when asked whether the NRCC would get involved to support Greene and Loomer, noting instead that Greene is running in a safe Republican district.
“The conversations that we’ve had basically are congratulations and let us know how we can be of assistance,” he said.
Emmer’s admission comes the same day that a Utah Republican leader called on the national party to distance itself from UT-04 nominee Burgess Owens over his ties to QAnon. The NRCC has endorsed Owens. They have also endorsed Lauren Boebert (CO-03) who said QAnon is “great for our country”, and Richard McCormick who has appeared on QAnon web shows.
Statement From DCCC Spokesperson Robyn Patterson
“House Republican leadership has long placated extremists. But their offer of campaign help to candidates linked to QAnon and Neo-Nazis is truly disturbing. Leader McCarthy and Chairman Emmer have welcomed the most darkest, most racist portions of society into the House Republican caucus. They should be ashamed of their actions.”
