Vice President Mike Pence is in the Twin Cities to fundraise for vulnerable Reps. Erik Paulsen and Jason Lewis, and help sell their unpopular GOP Tax Scam to Minnesota voters. It’s the latest effort from the Trump administration and Speaker Paul Ryan to prop up two of the most vulnerable incumbents in the country who have been a rubber stamp for the Trump-Ryan agenda. Pence’s joint fundraising PAC recently gave more than $50,000 to Paulsen and Lewis as top election forecasters list these suburban house seats as “toss-ups” heading into 2018.
Here is what Minnesotans need to know about the GOP Tax Scam that Vice President Pence and Reps. Erik Paulsen and Jason Lewis won’t tell them:
- The GOP Tax Scam caps the State and Local Tax (SALT) deduction that 1 in 3 Minnesotans rely on.
- 83 percent of the benefits from the GOP Tax Scam will go to the wealthiest Americans.
- The tax bill will add $1.5 trillion to the national debt.
- Minnesotans will see 10 percent higher health care premiums because of the GOP Tax Scam’s attacks on the Affordable Care Act.
- Now that they have blown up the deficit with their tax cuts, Washington Republicans have declared that they are planning to target Medicare and Medicaid to pay for it.
“Vice President Pence and Reps. Paulsen and Lewis are selling a bill of goods with their tax scam that raises taxes and health care premiums on Minnesota’s middle class in order to give tax breaks to the ultra-wealthy and corporations,” said DCCC spokesperson Rachel Irwin. “Paulsen and Lewis are more vulnerable than ever given their support of the unpopular GOP tax scam that adds more than a trillion dollars to the deficit while capping key deductions that 1 in 3 Minnesotans rely on. Paulsen and Lewis have consistently voted against the interests of their constituents, and now they’re relying on Party leaders to save their political careers.”
