Oregon Right To Life Was The State Affiliate Of National Right To Life, An Extreme Anti-Abortion Group With The Goal Of Banning Abortion Nationwide Without Exceptions

Oregon Right To Life Was The State Affiliate Of National Right To Life. “A federal court ruled against the enforcement of an Oregon law that forced pro-life organizations to provide insurance coverage for abortion. Oregon Right to Life, the Oregon affiliate of National Right to Life, challenged the law in court and the judge determined that the law violates the constitutional rights of Oregon Right to Life.” [Press Release, National Right to Life, 4/16/26]

  • National Right To Life Was One Of The Nation’s Oldest Anti-Abortion Groups, And Had A Federation Of State Right-To-Life Affiliates. “Founded in 1968, National Right to Life is the nation’s oldest and largest pro-life organization. National Right to Life is the federation of 50 state right-to-life affiliates, the District of Columbia and more than 3,000 local chapters.Through education and legislation, National Right to Life works to restore legal protection to the most defenseless members of our society who are threatened by abortion, infanticide, assisted suicide and euthanasia.” [National Right to Life, “About NRLC,” accessed 11/12/25]

National Right To Life Said Its Legislative Efforts And Those Of Its State Affiliates Were “One Of The Keys To Ending Abortion In The United States.” “Now, on this 48th anniversary of the Court’s action, we pause to look at the state of abortion in the United States. From recent data analyzed in these pages, we know the annual number of abortions is in an overall decline. This drop in numbers can be traced to a number of factors, but among them are the efforts by National Right to Life and its network of state affiliates to enact protective laws that provide legal protection to unborn children and offer hope and help to their mothers. These legislative efforts are at the very heart of our work, and they are one of the keys to ending abortion in the United States.” [National Right To Life, January 2021]

  • National Right To Life Promoted Model Legislation That Banned Abortion Without Exceptions For Rape Or Incest. “The 10-year-old Ohio girl who crossed state lines to receive an abortion in Indiana should

have carried her pregnancy to term and would be required to do so under a model law written for state legislatures considering more restrictive abortion measures, according to the general counsel for the National Right to Life. Jim Bopp, an Indiana lawyer who authored the model legislation in advance of the Supreme Court’s decision overturning Roe v. Wade, told POLITICO on Thursday that his law only provides exceptions when the pregnant person’s life is in danger. […] ‘Unless her life was at danger, there is no exception for rape,’ Bopp said. ‘The bill does propose exceptions for rape and incest, in my model, because that is a pro-life position, but it’s not our ideal position. We don’t think, as heartwrenching as those circumstances are, we don’t think we should devalue the life of the baby because of the sins of the father.’” [Politico, 7/14/22]
