The One Big Beautiful Bill Was Estimated To Kick More Than 26,000 People In OR-05 Off Their Health Insurance
September 2025: The Joint Economic Committee Minority Estimated More Than 26,000 People In OR-05 Would Lose Health Insurance By 2034 Due To Congressional Republicans’ Cuts To Medicaid And The ACA. “Source: The Joint Economic Committee – House Minority’s district-level numbers were created by combining estimates from the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office on the national total number of people who would lose insurance by 2034 with a range of state-level data on recent trends in Affordable Care Act enrollment, the total number of Medicaid enrollees in each state, and early analyses of how some Medicaid cuts in the bill would impact each state. Estimates were allocated to the district-level based on data provided by the House Budget Committee on the number of people in each District who are enrolled in Medicaid or in ACA Marketplace Plans. These estimates were sourced from the Regional Leadership Council and the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities. Due to redistricting in 2024, Congressional district data for North Carolina, Georgia, Louisiana, Alabama, and New York may not be an exact match. ACA estimates are rounded, and data may not sum to overall totals due to rounding.” [Joint Economic Committee Minority, September 2025]

The One Big Beautiful Bill Was “The Biggest Rollback In Federal Support For Health Coverage Ever,” Cutting $1 Trillion From Medicaid
KFF Executive Vice President For Health Policy Larry Levitt: The Big Beautiful Bill Was “The Biggest Rollback In Federal Support For Health Coverage Ever.” “The ‘one big beautiful bill’ that was just passed by the Senate has not been framed as a health reform plan. But make no mistake: This Republican policy bill is effectively a partial repeal of the Affordable Care Act to help pay for tax cuts, and should it reach President Trump’s desk, it would represent the biggest rollback in federal support for health coverage ever. A preliminary estimate from the Congressional Budget Office projects that the bill would reduce federal spending for Medicaid and the Affordable Care Act’s provisions by more than $1 trillion over a decade, resulting in nearly 12 million more people becoming uninsured by 2034.” [New York Times, KFF Executive Vice President for Health Policy Larry Levitt Op-Ed, 7/1/25]
Washington Post: The One Big Beautiful Bill Slashed “About $1 Trillion From Medicaid — The Largest Cut In The Program’s History.” “Congress has signed off on a $3.4 trillion legislative package featuring new tax breaks, spending cuts, and more funding for defense and immigration enforcement, delivering President Donald Trump his ‘big, beautiful bill’ despite rumblings from fiscal hawks about the projected $4 trillion it could add to the national debt over the next decade. […] The bill slashes about $1 trillion from Medicaid — the largest cut in the program’s history — and at least 17 million Americans are projected to lose health coverage or insurance subsidies that make coverage affordable, according to the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office.” [Washington Post, 7/3/25]
