Kiggans Was Criticized For Selling Out Her Constituents For Her Vote On The Republican Reconciliation Bill
The Virginian-Pilot Headline: “Editorial: In The End, Reps. Kiggans And Wittman Sold Out Their Constituents.” [The Virginian-Pilot, Editorial, 5/22/25]
The Virginian-Pilot Editorial: Kiggans Sold Out Her Constituents When She Voted For The Republican Reconciliation Bill. “As the sweeping Republican spending bill lurched its way through the U.S. House in recent weeks, members of Virginia’s congressional delegation promised they would oppose those sections that made life more difficult for commonwealth residents or which imperiled our economic future. Yet when push came to shove — when residents of Hampton Roads really needed the elected representatives to defend their interests — U.S. Reps. Jen Kiggans and Rob Wittman folded. On Thursday morning, they voted with their party and with the president instead of with the people they swore to serve.” [The Virginian-Pilot, Editorial, 5/22/25]
The Virginian-Pilot Editorial: Kiggans Vote “Would Be A Betrayal Were It Not So Predictable.” “Yet when push came to shove — when residents of Hampton Roads really needed the elected representatives to defend their interests — U.S. Reps. Jen Kiggans and Rob Wittman folded. […] It would be a betrayal were it not so predictable. For all the noise each made about fighting against the most onerous provisions of the bill — and there are many — neither had the courage to stand up to President Donald Trump or buck Republican leadership to do what was right.” [The Virginian-Pilot, Editorial, 5/22/25]
The Virginian-Pilot Editorial: Kiggans’ Vote “Will Stifle Growth And Ultimately Imperil” Her District’s Future. “And what about those laws which have helped the promising clean-energy economy in Hampton Roads? Gutted and effectively gone. Kiggans and Wittman, to their credit, both advocated for keeping these tax credits and other provisions that are creating jobs, revenue and opportunity here. But in the end, both voted for a bill that will stifle growth and ultimately imperil our region’s future.” [The Virginian-Pilot, Editorial, 5/22/25]
April 2025: Kiggans Said She Was “Protective” Of Local Clean Energy Investments Like Dominion Energy’s $9.8 Billion Coastal Virginia Offshore Wind Project Which Generated 2,000 Jobs
Kiggans Met With Dominion Energy And Hampton Roads Business Leaders About The Importance Of Clean Energy Investments In Producing Local Jobs And Economic Growth To The Area. “U.S. Rep. Jen Kiggans recently met with leaders from Dominion Energy, Virginia Natural Gas and other Hampton Roads business representatives to discuss how ‘clean’ energy investments are growing the local workforce and bringing long-term economic growth to the region. During a Wednesday roundtable event, hosted by Citizens for Responsible Energy Solutions, she also discussed efforts to drum up more support for clean energy among Republicans.” [The Virginian-Pilot, 4/24/25]
Kiggans Said That She Was “Protective” Of Clean Energy Projects In Her District Like The Coastal Virginia Offshore Wind Project. “Rep. Jen Kiggans, whose seat is a top target for Democrats, has long championed the 176-turbine Dominion Energy-operated offshore wind project, dubbed Coastal Virginia Offshore Wind. It is more than halfway complete and on track to power 660,000 homes. The company says it stands to reap hundreds of millions of dollars in tax credits in the coming years. ‘I’m protective of what I have going on here,’ Kiggans said at an April event that brought together a host of officials and energy industry executives. ‘I am who I am as the representative of a district who has an offshore wind project, that has some solar panel projects that is in a Commonwealth where we believe in ‘all of the above.” [E&E News by POLITICO, 5/20/25]
- Dominion Energy's $9.8 Billion Coastal Virginia Offshore Wind Project Right Off Virginia Beach Was Expected To Power Over 666,000 Homes. “Dominion Energy’s Coastal Virginia Offshore Wind project is under construction 27 miles off the coast of Virginia Beach. The $9.8 billion project will generate energy to power up to 660,000 homes, according to Dominion, and is expected to be completed at the end of 2026.” [The Virginian-Pilot, 4/24/25]
- Dominion Energy’s Coastal Virginia Offshore Wind Project Generated 2,000 Jobs For The Local Economy. “Dominion Energy resumed turbine installation at sunrise on Thursday last week, after the end of a federally mandated seasonal hiatus to protect migrating whales. The renewed construction marked the start of the second installation phase for a project that company executives said is 55% complete. Coastal Virginia Offshore Wind (CVOW), a 2.6-gigawatt project, has already installed 78 foundations for its 176 turbines and is generating 2,000 direct and indirect jobs for the local economy. Dominion has so far spent $6 billion on the monumental effort, which is 12 years in the making. The state-regulated utility in 2013 purchased the lease for the site about 30 miles offshore of Virginia Beach, Virginia, and overcame anti-wind opponents that sought to thwart the project.” [Canary Media, 5/5/25]
