ANCHOR: “We Reached Out To Her [Rep. Herrera’s Beutler’s] Office Twice Today And Yesterday To See Where She Stands Now But Have Not Heard Back Yet.”
Since late September, Rep. Jaime Herrera Beutler has run through a multitude of dodges, red herrings and supposed positions on the impeachment proceedings launched after President Trump’s repeated attempts to coerce foreign governments to interfere in American elections. Currently, her position on impeachment seems to be that she has no position and will do anything to not talk about it.
- Sept 26, 2019: Herrera Beutler acknowledged the whistleblower report had “serious allegations” against the President and called for the need for “transparency”.
- Oct 6, 2019: The whistleblowers report was released, Herrera Beutler’s office then refused multiple requests for comment on the ongoing impeachment proceedings.
- Oct 9, 2019: Herrera Beutler told the Vancouver Columbian Editorial Board she supported a formal vote authorizing a Congressional inquiry into the President’s alleged actions, touting the need to grant Republicans subpoena power and give the inquiry bipartisan legitimacy.
- Oct 17, 2019: A week later, Herrera Beutler’s office would not commit to voting to open an impeachment inquiry despite video of Herrera Beutler claiming to support a formal vote on furthering the Congressional inquiry.
- Oct 31st, 2019: Herrera Beutler then voted against a formal inquiry and declared it a “farce.”
- Nov 7th, 2019: Gordon Sondland, a major witness to the President’s abuse of power and Trump’s ambassador to the European Union, changed key portions of his testimony and testified that Trump had attempted to bribe Ukraine – when asked, Herrera Beutler wouldn’t comment on the bombshell news saying it was too many pages to read.
- Nov 12, 2019: Now, a group of veterans are calling on Herrera Beutler to put country over party and hold President Trump accountable. BUT when Herrera Beutler’s office was asked multiple times for comment on where she stands, she didn’t respond for comment.
“Rep. Jaime Herrera Beutler and her Republican colleagues in Congress are fully aware that if they read the witness transcripts, listen to the testimonies of career public servants and veterans, and truly evaluate the mounting evidence on the merits, they would not be able to defend the President’s behavior,” said DCCC Press Secretary, Andy Orellana. “Ultimately, no one is above the law, and Herrera Beutler knows better. As a Member of Congress, she should inform the public of her views as opposed to ducking, dodging and deceiving the voters of Southwest Washington.”
