Schmitt Still Refuses to Come Clean on GOP’s Abortion Ban

When asked point-blank whether he would vote to support the national abortion ban his party leaders plan to advance if Republicans secure a majority, Colin Schmitt refused to answer.

“Schmitt refused to say how he would vote on a federal bill banning abortion or restricting it to the first 15 weeks of pregnancy, as Sen. Lindsey Graham of South Carolina proposed in a new bill last month. Schmitt insisted Congress wouldn’t vote on such a proposal even if Republicans take control in January, so there was no need for him to state his position. ‘We’re not going to be voting on that,’ he said. ‘It’s a hypothetical that we’re not going to be voting on.”

However, congressional Republicans already told us that if they take back the House and Senate, they’ll vote on this life-threatening ban.

This latest act of cowardice is part of Colin’s pattern of dodging the issue of choice throughout the campaign, and makes clear that Schmitt is scared to remind voters of his long-established anti-choice record before Hudson Valley casts their ballots.

As an assemblyman, Schmitt voted against codifying basic reproductive freedom, fought against improving access to contraception, and cheered the overturning of Roe v. Wade

DCCC Spokesperson Ian Clarke
“Colin Schmitt’s campaign knows his extreme anti-choice views will lose him this election. Make no mistake – if Schmitt’s GOP allies manage to sneak him into Congress, he will support their efforts to eviscerate reproductive freedom across the country.”
