SHOT/CHASER: Max Rose Builds Hospital/Nicole Malliotakis Faces Photoshop Backlash

Voters Outraged Over Superimposed Image of Malliotakis Next to Supplies on Instagram

Last week, the National Republican Congressional Committee, an organization supporting Nicole Malliotakis’ candidacy, launched cowardly and disgusting attacks against Congressman Max Rose hours after he activated with the National Guard to help set up hospitals in his Staten Island district as New York City is the epicenter of the coronavirus pandemic.

Malliotakis refused to condemn the attacks leveled against him, dodging multiple requests from local reporters to respond. Instead she could be found superimposed into a picture appearing to deliver supplies to frontline workers. So far, Malliotakis has not publicly called on the Brooklyn Conservative Party to remove the doctored image.

Rep. Max Rose (D-Staten Island/South Brooklyn) has been working to help set up the hospital in his role as a captain with the National Guard, which is overseeing the hospital’s logistical operations.

Rose described the emergency hospital as an expansion to the existing SIUH campus in Ocean Breeze that will be integrated into the broader Northwell system.

“You could build 1,000 beds but if you put those beds in the middle of nowhere, not connected to a hospital complex, it won’t do you much good,” he said.

If a picture is worth a thousand words, then this image is worth a fortune.

Eagle-eyed observers found something fishy about a recently posted picture of Assemblywoman Nicole Malliotakis (R-Staten Island) standing in front of a car trunk containing gloves and sanitizer for coronavirus first responders.

The feel-good post on the Instagram page of the Brooklyn Conservative Party indicated that Malliotakis, who is running for Congress, was delivering “masks, gloves and supplies to nursing homes, sanitation workers and first responders.”

However, commenters noted that something seemed a little off about the photo.

Malliotakis Silent, Refuses to Condemn Washington Republicans’ Attack Against Active-Duty Congressman
Christine Bennett | April 3, 2020
Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee

“The National Republican Congressional Committee leveled political attacks against Representative Rose, a Purple Heart and Bronze Star recipient, while he is serving on the frontlines of this unspeakable crisis,” said DCCC Spokesperson Christine Bennett. “Nicole Malliotakis had the opportunity to stand up to her party and publicly repudiate the actions of the Washington Republicans propping up her campaign and failed to do so. It’s clear she is ill-equipped or unwilling to lead when it matters most. Thankfully, the people of South Brooklyn and Staten Island have a real leader in Max Rose.”
