South Jersey Republicans: “Jeff Van Who?”

Republican Candidates Win Endorsements As Local Republicans Continue to Reject Fraud Van Drew

We told you that Jefferson Van Drew’s party switch wouldn’t guarantee he’d be the Republican nominee for New Jersey’s 2nd District, let alone be reelected to Congress, and here’s more proof.

This week, top candidate David Richter announced he’d earned the support of Mayor Deborah Buzby-Cope and Municipal Republican Chairwoman Helen Hazard of Bass River Township in Burlington County.

The mayor called out Van Drew’s “liberal” voting record, which includes voting against Trump’s legislative priorities a whopping 90 percent of the time.

That was followed by New Jersey Right to Life PAC’s endorsement of GOP candidate Brian T. Fitzherbert today. The endorsement came one day after Van Drew, who explicitly said that he’d remain pro-choice as a Republican, supported anti-choice legislation in the House.

“Despite the Washington swamp’s best efforts to bully local Republicans into welcoming an obvious political opportunist into the fold, the primary field hasn’t cleared for the vulnerable new ‘Republican’ Jefferson Van Drew,” said DCCC Spokesperson Christine Bennett. “South Jersey leaders and voters see Van Drew for exactly who he is: a fraud.”
