Terrible Headlines and 200+ Tweets: How Chip Roy Spent His Weekend

After singlehandedly blocking the disaster relief bill, Roy went on a Memorial Day weekend bender

Since fleeing Washington after singlehandedly blocking a unanimous vote on a bipartisan disaster relief bill, Congressman Chip Roy (TX-21) spent the weekend being greeted by front pages across his district exposing his sabotage and took to Twitter to fire off more than 200 tweets and retweets.

Among his many online missives, Roy kicked off his “district work period” by arguing with reporters from Florida to Washington D.C. who pointed out Roy’s hypocrisy on disaster relief.

Meanwhile, just hours after Congressman Roy blocked the disaster relief bill from passing, the DCCC launched ads exposing Roy’s obstruction to thousands of TX-21 voters.

Here’s a small sample of what voters in Congressman Roy’s district have been seeing:

  • “The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee said it’s releasing digital ads criticizing Austin-area Congressman Chip Roy after the Republican single-handedly delayed a disaster aid package Friday.”
  • “The DCCC announced the ads ‘will reach thousands of voters in Texas’ 21st Congressional District on Facebook and Instagram.’”
  • “The freshman congressman opposed a $19 billion bipartisan aid package that would have provided aid to hurricane-prone parts of Texas, as well as other parts of the country dealing with natural disasters.”
