Garcia’s Health Care Agenda: repeal health care protections for seniors and families, let insurance companies deny coverage for pre-existing conditions and hike up costs for life saving drugs.
Today, in the Special Election race for California’s 25th Congressional District, the DCCC released a new television ad that makes it clear for voters Christy Smith’s track record of fighting for accessible and affordable health care in contrast with Mike Garcia’s reckless and harmful agenda of cutting health care protections and hiking prescription drug costs for Southern California families and seniors.
This is the second ad in the race focused on health care affordability and accessibility, as the vast majority of Americans rank cutting health care and prescription drug costs as their top priorities heading into election season, regardless of party affiliation. The ad began airing on TV in the district this weekend and is the third ad from the DCCC in the race.

The ad, “Leader,” highlights Smith’s record of being focused on working with local leaders from both parties and first responders to ensure seniors and families have access to the affordable health care they need, while still able to pay the bills at the end of the month. Along with Smith’s considerably stronger record on health care, her service to her community is why she has the deep support of first responders, doctors and nurses.
Alternatively, Mike Garcia’s record on health care and support for cutting vital services would harm California families, especially in a global pandemic, by letting insurance companies deny coverage for pre-existing conditions and hike up costs for life-saving drugs.
“Now, more than ever Southern California families need a leader who will put their health and safety first. Mike Garcia has made his agenda clear: repeal health care protections, allow insurance companies to deny coverage for pre-existing conditions and hike up costs for life saving drugs. Christy Smith’s decade of service and longstanding fight to ensure affordable and accessible health care makes her the best choice as a true representative for Southern California families and their wellbeing.” -DCCC Spokesperson Andy Orellana
“More than ever we need a leader who will put our health and safety first. But Mike Garcia would let insurance companies deny coverage for pre-existing conditions…and hike up costs for life-saving drugs.
That’s why California first responders, doctors, and nurses endorsed Christy Smith. Christy won’t take a dime from pharmaceutical companies. She’s working with both parties to ensure everyone has access to the affordable health care they need. Christy’s the leader California needs.
