To absolutely no one’s surprise, House Republicans have nothing to show for themselves after nearly 100 days in the 118th Congress. Their big oversight hearings have “fizzled,” George Santos has “made more headlines than any piece of legislation under consideration,” and the MAGA-dominated conference has “little to tout back home” as Congress heads into recess.
As the National Journal notes, the only memorable moment from the past four months came from the disastrous Speaker debacle, when McCarthy had to resort to backroom deals and shady promises to fulfill his life’s dream.
The contrast to a Democrat run Congress could not be more clear. In the first 100 days of the 117th Congress, President Biden and Speaker Pelosi had already rallied Democrats to pass the historic, bipartisan American Rescue Plan that delivered critical relief across the nation.
