After weeks of hinting, Congressman Mark Walker (NC-06) became the second North Carolina Republican in less than two weeks to retire rather than compete in the newly redrawn congressional maps.
Following Walker’s retirement, DCCC Chairwoman Cheri Bustos issued the following statement:
“House Republicans are running for the hills to avoid losing at the ballot box under this more representative electoral map. Congressman Walker now joins the ranks of dozens of other Republicans who’ve retired rather than own up to their record of answering to special interests, ripping away protections for people living with pre-existing conditions, and writing a tax handout to the wealthiest Americans.”
With Congressman Walker’s announcement, he is now the 7th member of the DCCC’s Retirement Watch List to call it quits.
Reminder: Walker was first added to the list after it was revealed he was named “Public Official A” in a massive corruption investigation that resulted in an indictment for NC GOP Chairman Robin Hayes.
